A flood of budget tablets has beenlaunched in India, but not all are good buys. Here we try to give you eight options worth exploring.
T here are a lot of budget tablets in the market -- most from unknown brands and generally based on some unknown or little known processor architectures, which despite the high speed claim, tend to be very slow and offer a very frustrating user experience.
Here are some tablets which we think offer good performance and utility for the price.
The prices mentioned are approximate to the prices that arebeing offered by various online shopping portals across India.

1. iBerry Auxus AX02 (Rs 7,990)

Although, iBerry has been a late entrant in the market but with its rightly priced and feature-rich products, it has gained a lot of fame in the past few months. The Auxus AX02 was iBerry's first ever Android ICS offering till date and the company has hit the bull's eyewith it.
The iBerry Auxus AX02 comes witha 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with 800x480 pixel resolution. The display is capable of recognising up to five points of multi-touch inputs and thus supports pinch-to-zoom functionality.
It has a Cortex A8 architecture based 1 GHz processor and dedicated dual core MALI graphicsprocessor for visual superiority. It features 1 GB of DDR2 RAM which is just the right amount of memory for apps to work freely on ICS and 4 GB of internal memory which can be expanded by up to 32 GB through a micro SDHC cards.

For data connectivity, the iBerry Auxus AX02 has option for Wi-Fi and 3G connection through a USB dongle. The tablet also has an HDMI port which will allow users to connect the tablet to a TV. The Android tablet also supports a number of music and video file formats for entertainment superiority while being mobile too.
There is a VGA (0.3 megapixel) front facing camera for video chats while with its 3 megapixel rear camera, you can capture videos too. Also, there is a 4000 mAh battery that provides more than five hours of non stop action.

2. HCL ME Tab U1 (Rs 7,490)

The Me tab is a 7-inch display based tablet featuring the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or ICS operating system. The display features an 800 480 pixel resolution along with a 5-point capacitive touch input system as well.
The tablet has a 1 GHz Arm Cortex A8 processor and 512 MB RAM. Although the amount of RAM is good but the device's user interface shows signs of fatigue and is quite slow in launching applications. Besides that the tablet has got a 0.3 megapixel front camera good enough for voice chats but no rear camera.
Also there's a 3600 mAh battery pack to power this up, 3G connectivity can be accessed through data or cellular dongle.

The tablet does not have access to Android Market (which is now known as Google Play Store) so users will not be able to Android applications available online. Instead, the company has given the device access to HCL Me App Store from where users can download applications which have been optimised and carefully selected to perform on the Me tab.

3. Lava E Tab Z7H (Rs 5,499)

The E-Tab Z7H is Lava Mobile's first Android 4.0 based tablet. The device has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It has a 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal memory. It only has a front facing VGA camera and 3G support through dongle. There is a 2800 mAh battery as well.
The Lava E Tab comes with 14 E-books, worth Rs 4,000, for free from Tata Mcgraw Hill. Along with this the tablet has also access to free content worth Rs 1,250 from Hungama.comincluding six movies and a lot of music.

Lava has also tied up with Tata Photon (Tata Docomo) to offer Tata Photon dongle for Rs 750 which includes 6 GB data for the first month and Rs 100 discount on any unlimited pack every month for 12 month. All in all, the tablet offers a budget price with abundle of freebies to play around and keep the users entertained.

4. Intex iTab (Rs 8,399)

Intexs iTab, which was launched in March this year, has been liked by many.
The tablet comes with the older yet functional Android 2.3 operating system with updated Adobe Flash Player 11. The iTab is powered by a 1 GHz cortex A8 architecture based processor which is supported by a 1 GB DDR3 RAM.
It has an 8-inch capacitive five point touch screen display that allows the user to comfortably zoom in and out with all the fingers. The 360 degree G-Sensor feature makes it to change display orientation based on how user is holding the tablet.

The Intex iTab has a memory capacity of 8 GB which is expandable upto 32 GB. It supports external hard drive of 100 GB as well through its full-sized USB port.
The Intex iTab is powered by a 5000 mAh battery giving it a back up of 5-6 hours (with Wi-Fi), claimed the company.
Connectivity options include in-built Wi-Fi support. One can also choose to stay connected through 3G network by using a dongle. It has a front camera and a 3.5 mm audio jack out with built-in mic for video calls.

5. Micromax Funbook P300 4GB (Rs6,380)

The Micromax Funbook will comes with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with 800x480 pixel resolution. The display is capable of multi-touch inputs and thus supports pinch-to-zoom functionality.
It has a Cortex A8 architecture based 1.2 GHz processor and dedicated dual core MALI graphicsprocessor for visual superiority. It features 512 MB of RAM which is just the right amount of memory for apps to work on ICS.
It has 4 GB of internal memory which can be expanded by up to 32 GB through an external micro SD card.

For data connectivity, the Funbook Pro has option like Wi-Fi and 3G connection through a USB dongle. Users will also get a Tata Photon data card for free with this tablet with 1 GB of free data for two months as a complimentary offer form the manufacturer.
The tablet also has an HDMI port which will allow users to connect the Funbook Pro to a TV. The Android tablet also supports a number of music and video file formats for entertainment superiority while being mobile too.

6. Reliance 3G Tab V9A (Rs 14,499)

This is the costliest tablet in the list. However, it is also the most feature-rich with SIM calling and 3G along with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with Android 2.3 OS and a high speed 1.4 GHz processor.
This latest 3G tablet from Reliance comes with screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixel, 512 MB RAM, and5-point touch input.
The Reliance 3G Tab, which weighs 402 grams, has a 3 megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera for video calling.

Another advantage that goes a long way in justifying the price is free benefits worth Rs 6,250. Reliance offers its 3G customers 3 GB of 3G data for three months, local video calls and STD calls to Reliance 3G, postpaid voice rental for 12 months with Rs 250 worth of global calling, one-year subscription to McAfee Mobile Security, two months' subscription to BigFlix, and a 4 GB micro SD card, all free.
The biggest drawback of the tablet is that it runs on Android 2.3 only and not Android 4.0, which most other tablets use.

7. Micromax Funbook Pro (Rs 9,999)

Funbook Pro is the cheapest 10-inch tablet from a known brand in India. We have been testing this tablet and are very happy with its performance so far.
Funbook Pro features a 10-inch capacitive touchscreen with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. The tablet is based on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich operating systemand runs on an Arm Cortex A8 based 1.2 GHz processor.

Micromax Funbook Pro comes with a 1 GB DDR3 RAM that makes sure things go well all along. The tablet also features 8 GB inbuilt memory and supports 32 GB of additional storage via a micro SD card.
For HD video playback on an external device, Funbook Pro features an HDMI port. It also comes with a 0.3 megapixel camera in the front for video calling.
The tablet is priced at Rs 9,990 with a free Tata Photon dongle also for 3G data connectivity.

8. Karbonn Smarttab 1 (Rs 6,999)

This tablets claim to fame is its upgrade to Android Jellybean, which has already been announced and will be available by the end of this month. The device also has decent specifications and build quality.
We are currently using it and find it to be a good value for money product. However, touch sensitivity is a tad slow, which affects gaming, but not normal usage when accuracy of touch (which is only slightly off) is not that important.

Karbonn SmartTab 1 comes with a 7-inch capacitive screen, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, a 1.2 GHz processor and 3700 mAh battery.
It also has a mini HDMI port (to connect it to a TV), a micro SD card slot for storing up to 32 GB, and a USB port that can be used for a 3G dongle.
The tablet, which bears a 2 megapixel camera, has a 3D gravity sensor for gaming.
